The Full Story
History
Many Community Response Volunteer groups were formed when the world came to a standstill, our communities took action. As the Covid-19 pandemic placed immense pressure on the National Health Service and emergency services, volunteers stepped forward to provide vital backup and support to those in need.

Response
People needed help, and they knew they couldn’t stand by. From collecting and delivering essential items to ensuring medication reached the vulnerable, communities formed response teams to support those who needed them most.

From care homes to medical centres, people came together. Volunteers supported NHS workers, emergency responders, and those shielding at home—making sure no one was left isolated or without essentials.

They weren’t doctors or nurses, but knew they could help. Whether it was running errands, assisting vaccination efforts, or simply checking in on neighbours, every action made a difference. They became a dedicated lifeline for many people.

Without these volunteers, the jobs of public services, the NHS and emergency services would have been even harder. They extended the reach of frontline services, making sure no one was left behind.
Continued need
Although the pandemic is now over a crisis still exists with many public and health care services under severe strain and there remains a need for Emergency Community Response Volunteers.

They are not replacing public services, but are strengthening them—filling in the gaps and providing a safety net for those in crisis whenever possible.

Through emergency response volunteer groups, communities are ensuring vital services can be provided. From food banks to welfare check-ins, transport aid to crisis response—every small action makes a big impact.

We’re not just here for today’s needs—we’re building a reserve. If an emergency hits, our network is ready to respond, standing shoulder to shoulder with frontline services.

In times of need, we rise together. Join the movement. Be the difference. Because a strong community is an empowered community.
